In A Rut

I have been in a cooking rut.  Has that ever happened to you?  You just cook the same things over and over again, rarely trying anything new??

Well two weeks ago we attend the SLO Health and Fitness Expo.  They had lots of interesting exhibits.  One that caught our eye was SLOVeg.  Locally grown organic veggies and fruits delivered to your door weekly.  We decided to give it a try.  Last week for the first time I cooked Bok Choy

and Swiss Chard.

Both very yummy!!  We also had fresh strawberries, oranges, apples and other veggies.  While a little pricey, I think it will help us to eat healthier.  This week we got these lovely vegetables that I have never cooked with before.

Red Russian Kale

and Purple Kohlrabi, this one looks like an alien veggie to me with all these cool antennae poking out every which way.

The problem is how to prepare these.  Anyone ever have kohlrabi before?  Did you like it?  I could use some recipes. Thanks

Try this, soooo yummy!

KOHLRABI & APPLE SLAW with CREAMY COLESLAW DRESSING

DRESSING
1/4 cup cream
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1/2 tablespoon good mustard
1/2 teaspoon sugar
Salt & pepper to taste - go easy here
Fresh mint, chopped

1 pound fresh kohlrabi, trimmed, peeled, grated or cut into batons 2 apples, peeled, grated or cut into batons (try to keep equivalent volumes of kohlrabi to apple) Whisk cream into light pillows - this takes a minute or so, no need to get out a mixer. Stir in remaining dressing ingredients, the kohlrabi and apple. Serve immediately.

or this one:

Roasted Kohlrabi

Ingredients

* 4 kohlrabi bulbs, peeled
* 1 tablespoon olive oil
* 1 clove garlic, minced
* salt and pepper to taste
* 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Directions

1. Preheat an oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C).
2. Cut the kohlrabi into 1/4 inch thick slices, then cut each of the slices in half. Combine olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper in a large bowl. Toss kohlrabi slices in the olive oil mixture to coat. Spread kohlrabi in a single layer on a baking sheet.
3. Bake in the preheated oven until browned, 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally in order to brown evenly. Remove from oven and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Return to the oven to allow the Parmesan cheese to brown, about 5 minutes. Serve immediately.
