The beautiful Oakland California Temple, a beacon about the fog! |
Thirty-two years ago Mike and I along with almost 3 year old David and baby April drove six hours from our home in Rio Dell, California down to Oakland. It was in the middle of the energy crisis, with long lines to get gasoline. (Do you remember those days?) So, it was not an easy trip, especially with little ones. However, something special and sacred was waiting for our little family. Once there, we entered into the beautiful Oakland temple for the first time. Richard and Laurel were there, beside us to help us through the process. We made sacred promises and were sealed together as a family. In temples, husbands and wives are sealed to
each other and children are sealed to their parents in eternal
families. This means that if we stay true to our covenants, our
family relationships will continue for eternity.

I love my family so much and desire to be with them forever. Temples can help to make that come to pass, but again we must be faithful to those promises we make. When we know that we are married for time and all eternity it gives us more motivation to work things out when life gets tough here on earth.
It is interesting that this day, 32 years ago, is one of David's earliest memories. Even at a young age children can feel the Spirit of the Lord and know when something very important is happening. Today, David has a wonderful opportunity for his little family. They will be attending the ground breaking for the new Provo City Center Temple to be build at the site of the Provo Tabernacle. This is just three blocks from their home. What a special experience awaits them!! Who knows what sacred ordinances my grandchildren will participate at that sacred temple in the future.
