Sunday Singing

Music touches my heart in a way that nothing else can. I especially love the Hymns and Primary music found in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints. "Where Can I Turn for Peace" is a hymn that has given me great comfort. The men's choir in this version is especially touching.

I remember when I was pregnant with Evan and having difficulty sleeping. I would get up in the middle of the night, my mind racing. One night I found myself at the piano. I opened the hymn book and started softly plucking the piano. I came to the hynm, Where Can I Turn for Peace. It was one I had never heard before, but as I softly played and whispered the words, peace came to my heart and tears to my eyes. I knew I would be able to handle whatever lay ahead. I love the scripture in Philippians Chapter 4:6-7 that reads:

"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplications with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

I'm grateful for the peace I have felt in my life when I didn't think it was possible. That is my wish for you too!

I too love music. One thing I love, is how even when I know a song well, it means something different, at a certain time.

"Lead Kindly Light" has always been one of my favorites. I remember the Tab choir held a special concert after 9/11, and this is one they sang. I remember how peaceful I felt after it.

I then heard it again, after we found out Jack had issues. It took on a WHOLE new meaning to me. I had been saying, how I need to be in control, and the situation was so frustrating, because, I had to leave my baby's fate up to the Lord. Then I heard the song, again. This verse hit me hard.

I loved to choose and see my path; but now lead Thou me on!

Anyway...thanks for letting me share!

Cindy, when I saw comment and link to your post on my blog, I thought you were a friend in my ward. Clicked on the link to your blog, and find that you're not who I thought. But I'm glad I clicked, because now I will read your blog daily. We have much in common. I,too, am a convert to the Church -- 29 years. I'm from the midwest, originally Toledo, Ohio, but have lived all over the country due to my husband's military service. We currently live in Provo UT.

Thanks for visiting my blog. I look forward to getting to know you better thru yours.

I love what you wrote about yourself. Very tender as today's post is too. Reading it brought tears to my eyes. I LOVE that song.

Jenny,
I know what you mean about control. I think I want to be in control too. But, I do know that the Lord knows best and I'm willing to let Him "Lead Me On"!
Thanks so much for sharing your story.
