HAPPINESS

What bring us happiness? That question has been on my mind lately. In this midst of this political season the question has come up a lot. Are we taking away the very happiness of others by denying them the "right" to live in "marriage" with whomever they love regardless of gender.

Nothing would make my son Evan happier than growing up to become a meteorologist. He loves anything to do with weather!! Evan, however will never be a meteorologist. That requires a college degree which is beyond the realm of possibility for him, given his cognitive abilities.

Maybe we should have them change the requirements for getting a degree in meteorology. Doesn't he have a "right" to pursue the profession that will bring him happiness??

Or better yet, maybe we could support him in job where he could work in a weather related field. I know that doing anything with weather would make Evan happy. He does NOT have to be a meteorologist to be happy.

Some people who are attracted to those of the same gender want to be able to legally marry those that they love. They want to be happy. Is it the marriage that brings them happiness or being together that makes them happy? They can get the exact same rights and legal benefits as any married couple does. In California that is the law under domestic partnerships. Would changing the very definition that has defined traditional marriage for centuries bring them true happiness?? I think not.

Really though, the bottom line is, as Alma an ancient prophet, once said. "Wickedness never was happiness".

My hubby just described this picture to me this evening! Now I get to see it on your blog. I likened myself to Samuel while putting my "Yes on 8" bumper sticker on my (not cheap) car.

You nailed the analogy of Evan + meteorology = unfair rights. :)

Cindy, I would subscribe to a blog that gave me the weather--local--or even not local--however he wanted to do it. Is that a possibility?

I think Blogspot deleted your following info. on Hillary's blog. She said, "Mom, I had five folowers and now there's only you and one other." She doesn't know you but was thrilled that someone read her. Anyway, IF you had subscribed I wanted you to know she didn't delete you.

Think about that blog for Evan. Seriously, I think a lot of your friends would subscribe. I would leave comments. I would.

What a great idea, Lynne. Check out http://evansweather.blogspot.com/ . Writing a blog has been one of the goals Evan is working on at school. However, this year they have run into some problems, with the school's firewall not letting them sign into Blogspot. Go figure. Some teens use blogs for evil purposes. Evan doesn't remember to work on it at home, and I don't remember to nag him!! Guess, I need to work on that!!

Oh! I just noticed that Samuel is holding a Yes on 8 sign! How funny. I'm going to e-mail this to Sister Turley. Our ward waved signs on Sunrise yesterday, and someone drove on the sidewalk to try to hit them, and ran over a big sign they had in the ground.
