with my love for family history????

Here's my pinewood derby for our upcoming ward activity.

Wish me well!!

My Damaged Self Esteem

This morning I had to take Evan into the see the orthotist to get new AFO's (short leg braces) made. He broke one of them rolling over it with his power wheelchair. Anyway, we are driving along listening to the wonderful CD that Rachel made for me for Christmas. It has songs on it that our family members told her remind them of me. We are listening to Jamie O'Neal's "Somebody's Hero" and Evan asks, "Why does this song remind somebody of you???" OUCH!!! Thanks very much Evan.

So, we have a little discussion about what makes someone a hero. Dr. Rinsky is Evan's hero, because he performed his spinal fusion and thus no more horrible back brace to wear. I hold Dr. Rinsky in high esteem, so I think that is a pretty good choice.

But, I can't leave well enough alone. Then I ask Evan if he could at least look up to me a little bit. He replies "UMMMMM" Then after a very long silence, he says. "I thought I was suppose to look up to Jesus Christ." Well, yes, "that's true", I say. Not, that I can even compete with that!!

So, anyway, the bottom line is, that to Evan I'm just the lady that "drives him nuts telling him to problem solve". It's so nice to be loved and appreciated!!

God's Hands

Let me be blunt.
Working graveyard shift stinks!!
Working twelve hour graveyard shift stinks even more.
Working a six day week, twelve hour graveyard shift stinks even more than that!

All you have time for is eating, sleeping, and working. It's hard to sleep during the day. (I know I worked graveyard in my nursing days anciently). Our bodies are designed to be awake when it's light and sleep when it's dark. It can just confuse the living daylights out of a body to have to try to sleep when the sun shines. That can make a body very grouchy and irritable!!

Mike has completed four weeks of a ten week or so, six day a week, twelve hour graveyard duty. I can see God's hand in his life, helping him to sleep, helping him to drive safe to and from work, helping him to not let the stresses of work turn him into an irritable and grouchy husband and father. I am so grateful for that blessing.

The Ripple

Thirty One years ago today, a ripple was made.
A husband and a wife were baptized members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
How many people does that ripple affect??
Well, let's see our immediate family grew to eight.
That number now has over doubled,
with sons and daughter in laws and wonderful grandchildren who have joined our ever growing family.
Two sons served missions and were able to see lives converted and changed. Friends have been touched and influenced.
Ancestors have been offered blessings of the gospel through temple ordinances.
The RIPPLE goes on and on.
Isn't it just AMAZING!!!!

God's Hands

Sometimes we are God's Hands on earth. That hit home to me yesterday. It was our Ward Conference. (Once a year in every congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day they have a special conference Sunday, and our local leaders speak to us and offer training). As part of the conference we raised our hands to sustain our Prophet and other General Authories and our local leadership. Our raised hands signify that we will help and support our leaders. Each will do all they can do see the work of the Lord moves forward within our little group of Heavenly Father's children.

Someone said that, the Lord works in mysterious ways. One of those ways is that he works through us as mortals to bring about His perfect work. It's very humbling to be God's Hands.

GLORY BE!!

Maybe you have heard that California is having a drought.

Two day's ago this was the picture on the front page of the local section in our county newspaper.

You can read the story here. Athough it may look like a desert it is actually a lake!!

This morning I woke to the soft pitter pat of rain falling, and it is raining even harder now.

We are in for a big storm for a few days. GLORY BE!!!

Happy Anniversary to Me!!

Today marks one year that I have been serving as a part time, at home service missionary with the Family History Department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I am a World-Wide Product Support missionary. That means that I help support some of the products that the LDS church has produced to help people with family history. I answer phones calls that support www.new.familysearch.org and e-mails that support New Family Search, Family Tree, Personal Ancestral File, also know as PAF (you can download it free here), FamilySearch Internet, etc. I totally love what I do. I can not tell you how this has affected my life. I work with great missionaries, I have had great missionary leaders, team leaders and supervisors. We have wonderful uplifting and informative training meeting several times a week. All this from home. Isn't technology great??? I have learned a lot, and have a lot more to learn.

Every month we have to fill out a monthly missionary report with the number of hours we spent serving, the number of e-mails and phone calls we answered, the number of training meetings we attended and a spiritual experience. I thought I would share my spiritual experience for January.

"During one of the training meetings last week Mindy mentioned that every call has a reason to come to us. She said it was a “blessing for the patron to get you to answer their question for them.” When she said that my heart just swelled, and the Spirit whispered to me that it was true. It’s an awesome and at times an overwhelming responsibility that just fills me with gratitude. I can’t believe that a year is almost up since starting this mission. I can’t tell you how much this has changed my life. I was in that time of life when most of the children were gone and grandchildren far away. I was just trying to figure out what to do with my life. I was just wasting my time with activities that really had no value, not that they were bad, but just did not have any lasting benefit. This calling certainly has lasting benefit. In fact, on that very day that Mindy made the statement above I had a patron call needing help with her sign-in to New FamilySearch. When I was ending the call I told her, thanks for calling and invited her to call again if she needed help. She asked if she would get me and I told her probably not, that we had hundreds of wonderful missionaries all over the world to answers phones. Then she said, “When I get to the other side, I will look you up!!” My heart swelled again."

Well, it doesn't get much better than that. Yesterday, I helped this sweet sister from Hawaii. We talked for over an hour. Her pedigree was quite a mess with unknown names!! (As with any new technology there are bugs and glitches.) I helped her get a few things cleaned up, then had to send her on to the wonderful "tech guys" to help her with the rest. It feels great to be a part of something bigger than myself and New FamilySearch is big!! I signed up for two years and I don't want to stop!! I'm celebrating today by working on my own family history. Wish me luck!! Sometimes it's a mess too!!

God's Hands

The biggest chicken in the world is me!!

I'm sure of it!!

I don't like the dark or listening to things that go bump in the night.

I especially don't like it when my husband works night shift,

which he did last week!!

Usually, I have a hard time getting to sleep, and end up on the couch until the wee hours of
the morning before going off to my bed.

However, this past week, every single night I went to bed on time and actually fell

asleep. I did not worry. I felt safe in God's Hand.
