Awareness Month

October is awareness month for two causes that have greatly affected my life...breast cancer and spina bifida.
So, this month I will be occasionally sharing insights and stories about these subjects.

If you are a woman of child bearing age please make you sure you get enough folic acid in your diet. While folic acid does not prevent all cases of spina bifida and other neural tube defects, studies have shown it can greatly reduce the incidence.

To prevent breast cancer all women should:
  • Obtain regular mammography screening starting at the age of 40
  • Obtain annual clinical breast exams
  • Perform monthly breast-self exams
  • Obtain a risk assessment from a physician
