Happy Mother's Day

Today I would like to honor five women in my life.  These special ladies are helping to raise the future generation including my grandchildren and future grandchildren. They nurture and reach out to others in amazing ways. I look out at society now, and see the challenges that young people face. It is hard to be a young person today, and it is even harder to love, nurture and raise children in this day and age.  When I visit in their homes I see them teaching the gospel in their families.  They attend church together and pray and read scriptures together. These are the things that will bring strength to the future generations. And it warms my heart!   I love you April, Katie, Rachel, Sariah and Amy.  Thank you for uplifting me.

Happy Anniversary to Us!!

Photograph of the Oakland California Mormon Temple
The beautiful Oakland California Temple, a beacon about the fog!

Thirty-two years ago Mike and I along with almost 3 year old David and baby April drove six hours from our home in Rio Dell, California down to Oakland.  It was in the middle of the energy crisis, with long lines to get gasoline. (Do you remember those days?)  So, it was not an easy trip, especially with little ones. However, something special and sacred was waiting for our little family.  Once there, we entered into the beautiful Oakland temple for the first time. Richard and Laurel were there, beside us to help us through the process.  We made sacred promises and were sealed together as a family.  In temples, husbands and wives are sealed to each other and children are sealed to their parents in eternal families. This means that if we stay true to our covenants, our family relationships will continue for eternity.

I love my family so much and desire to be with them forever.  Temples can help to make that come to pass, but again we must be faithful to those promises we make.  When we know that we are married for time and all eternity it gives us more motivation to work things out when life gets tough here on earth.

It is interesting that this day, 32 years ago,  is one of David's earliest memories.  Even at a young age children can feel the Spirit of the Lord and know when something very important is happening.  Today, David has a wonderful opportunity for his little family.  They will be attending the ground breaking for the new Provo City Center Temple to be build at the site of the Provo Tabernacle.  This is just three blocks from their home.  What a special experience awaits them!!  Who knows what sacred ordinances my grandchildren will participate at that sacred temple in the future.

Our Incredible Cross-Country Escapade

We have just returned from an Incredible Cross-Country Escapade.  We drove 9,000 plus miles in five weeks from coast to coast.  We meet some family for the first time and saw the beautiful sights in our great country.  As always, it is great to be back home.  (Click on above hyperlink to read more about our travels.)

While on our travels we made some random observations.

  • Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser is great to clean windshields!!  We discovered this when something weird got on the windshield and normal window cleaner did not touch it, and a car wash didn't help either.
  •  Having an extra pair of prescriptions glasses would be a good thing in case you accidentally drop your glasses when try to clean a dirty windshield and then step on them because you can't see them!!
  • Drivers in North Dakota must not travel far.  It took us four weeks to find a North Dakota license plate and we found it in South Dakota!  Mind you, we found Hawaii and Alaska in the first few days!!
  • Electronic car keys do NOT work after going through the laundry.
  •  There are no "Q's" or "O's" in license plates.
  • Drivers in Oklahoma know how to merge well when a lane is closed.  It helps that they have a law, when you see the sign to merge, you merge!  None of this waiting to merge until the very end creating a traffic jam.
  • The bridges in Massachusetts need to be painted.  Many were old and rusty with lots of graffiti.
  • Toll roads stink. (I'm just a spoiled small town California girl)
  • South Dakota highways are littered with bill boards!
  • Eastern city streets are curvy and crocked and Western city streets are straight.
  • My favorite: Evan's observation when playing the alphabet game.  "Where is a zebra crossing sign when you need one?"

What observations have you made while traveling?
