Little Boys and Trees

My grandson's had fun with my whimsical trees.

Spencer pretended that my trees were cogs (robots) from a video game called Toontown. So, he squirted them with water just like the toon he created, Deputy Wildjinks does. Too funny!!

And sweet Andrew decided that my trees needed names. So, I would like to introduce you to Ashley and Zach my trees!! Aren't they cute!!

Fabulous Friday's Forever Family Featuring...

my ever growing, amazing, wonderful, immediate family!!!

Here they are, the people I want to be with forever!! It was wonderful to have all our children and grandchildren together this past weekend. We missed, Matteo, April's husband, he had to work and could not be there. It's been sad to me to have them spread all over the West in three states. So, we do enjoy all the time we can spend together. Who knows when we will be able to get this many together again.

Here is just of picture of "the kids" (I say that lovingly not meaning to offend). I would entitle this "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother". Evan has great siblings!!

A Birthday, A Blessing and A Baptism

We had a very busy weekend. Family started arriving on Friday afternoon, and didn't leave until Monday!! Here are just some of the great things we got to do!!

Saturday we celebrated Spencer's "It's Great to Be Eight birthday"!! He had a fun day. He said "WOW" a lot!!

Easter Sunday little Leah was given a Blessing ( similar to a christening) in our church. Here are just some of the Elders who were able to help with that ordinance.
From left to right, Mike, John, Brad, David with Leah, Joey and in the front Evan!!

Also on Easter Sunday, Spencer was baptized by his Dad. I'm proud of Spencer. He wanted to "Chose the Right" and get baptized. He was incredibly happy all day long! It was so great to see him take this big step. He is wearing the same outfit I made David when he was baptized. Actually all my sons wore that outfit!!

More about our weekend will be in future blog posts.

52 BLESSING PROJECT - Week Twelve

HE LIVES!!

I am so grateful to know that my Savior, Jesus Christ lives! This is the most remarkable and important blessing of all. Because my Savior lives it means that I can live again after my life on this earth has ended. It means that my family members can also. We can live with our Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ and our families forever! It is difficult to comprehend the sacrifice and suffering that Jesus Christ endured for all of us. What wonderful love!!

I wish everyone a most joyous Easter!!

Christ the Lord Is Risen Today

Christ the Lord is ris’n today,
Alleluia!
Sons of men and angels say,
Alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high,
Alleluia!
Sing, ye heav’ns, and earth reply,
Alleluia!

Love’s redeeming work is done,
Alleluia!
Fought the fight, the vict’ry won,
Alleluia!
Jesus’ agony is o’er,
Alleluia!
Darkness veils the earth no more,
Alleluia!

Lives again our glorious King,
Alleluia!
Where, O death, is now thy sting?
Alleluia!
Once he died our souls to save,
Alleluia!
Where thy victory, O grave?
Alleluia!

Fabulous Friday's Forever Family Featuring...

that special little boy who made me a Grandma, Spencer!!

Dear Spencer,

I loved you before you even came to our family. I remember when you were first born. I was so happy to be a Grandma!! I watched outside the nursery window while your Daddy gave you a bath. You looked perfect with your ten little fingers and ten little toes. I had such a great feeling of love for you. Somehow though, I had a feeling that all was not well. I just thought it was my brain doing funny things. I never could have imagined all the things you would have to go through. What a shock later in the day when your Grandpa told me that your little esophagus wasn't attached to your stomach. What a miracle that the nursing staff noticed something not quite right and didn't feed you anything. You were airlifted away later that night. The next time I saw you, you were in the same NICU that Evan spent his first 17 days of life. What mixed emotions!! I was grateful you were in a place that could help you, but sad for all the pain you had to endure.

It was wonderful when you finally got to come home and I could actually hold you, my first born grandchild. That first year was kind of rough, not a good year for our family at all. I remember at one point both you and Evan were in different hospitals hundreds of miles away from each other. But look at how we have survived. Look at how you have survived!! You are amazing! You are smart and funny and I love your silliness. I love your hugs! I love how you are always happy to see me!! Awe, and I get to see you later today!! We can have a few days together. Nothing could be more wonderful!! I'm so happy you are coming for Easter. I'm so happy you have made the choice to get baptized this Easter Sunday. What a special day that will be. You have chosen to follow our Savior Jesus Christ. I know that He can be a strength in your life. Spencer, I love being your Grandma.
Love,
Grandma

I love this picture of you in the tree.

Fifty Two Blessing Project - Week Eleven

Modern Conveniences

As a little girl I loved to read the Little House on the Prairie books. How fun it would be, I thought, to live in that time period!! Now that I'm older and have had the responsibility of
running a household, I can't imagine living without all the wonderful things we have now.

We don't have to burn candles or oil lamps. Recently we spent six hours without any electricity. Now, that's a blessing that I take for granted. We live in an all electric home so it was a little bit of a challenge. But it was okay for a few hours. I can't imagine not ever having electricity at all.

How about bringing in the water from the creek or a pump?? Can you imagine NOT having running water? What a blessing to have water at our finger tips. And it's clean too, we don't have to purify it or boil it.

How about cooking everyday over a fire, or taking your clothes to the river to wash and scrub with a scrub board. I have so many wonderful appliances that make life so much easier. My refrigerator keeps my food cold and safe from spoiling. My washer and dryer makes it so easy for me to keep my family's clothes clean. And I can cook yummy food with my oven and microwave.

I'm grateful for these wonderful conveniences. Now the trick is to use the time wisely that I they save me.

Fabulous Friday's Forever Family Featuring...

My great grandmother Mary Finnicane/Finnochan.

Dear Grandma Mary,

Why are you hiding from me? I feel like I have hit a big brick wall. I'm ready for it come tumbling down!! I see you on the 1880 census with your little family. Then you disappeared.

I have learned a little bit about you from that census. You were living in Chelmsford, Massachusetts at the time, with your husband Jeremiah Crowley and three small children, John, Ann, and Mary E. (Mamie). Ireland was your birth place. Reading and writing were something that you hadn't learned. And you were 5 years older than your husband.

Where did you go? One grandson lists your maiden name as Mary Finnochan on his marriage record. On a daughters death record you are listed as Mary Finnicane. And sadly, on your son's death record the informant, a granddaughter, listed you as "unknown". Why had you been been forgotten? How does that happen? What was your life like?? Did you come to America as a little girl or a grownup? How hard was that to leave your country? Who are your parents?? Did you love being a wife and mother? How did you survive the challenges of life? I'm sure you had them. Did you die a tragic death or a peaceful death?? Where are you buried? Do you know how many Mary Crowley's there were in Massachusetts? How do I find the right one, you?? I want to know YOU!! You are a part of who I am!! When I learn about you, I learn about myself. Please help me find you, I know you are out there....somewhere.

Love,
Cindy

Do You Have Questions??

Do you have questions about FamilySearch, New FamilySearch or Personal Ancestral File? Maybe I can help you find an answer and you would be helping me train for my family history service mission!! We are learning about answering phone calls and I have a toll free practice number people can call. So, to set up a time for a phone call, just drop me an email (click my profile, it's on that page), or find me on Google Talk at drjakesma! Then I will help you find answers. You might have to be patient though, remember I'm just learning!!

FIFTY TWO BLESSING PROJECT, Week Nine

I'm grateful for the Boy Scouts of America!!

Scout Oath or Promise
On my honor, I will do my best
To do my duty to God
and my Country
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.

I love the picture above. It shows Boy Scouts of all levels, even a little Cub Scout!! They are off to provide service and they are smiling and happy!! Their church and other community buildings are in the background, because they offer support to the Boy Scouts. I have been helping with the Boy Scout Merit Badge PowWow!! Three Saturdays in a row there are 200 Boy Scouts all in one big building to work on lots of merit badges. I'm helping with the Disabilities Awareness Badge, what else?? I have had some great young men taking this merit badge. In todays society some youth are looked down upon for their behavior. It is so nice to see a group of boys who are striving to be their best!! And desiring to learn new things!!

I'm grateful that all three of my sons are Eagle Scouts. All three of my daughters married Eagle scouts too!! And my little grandson, Spencer, is a future Eagle Scout who just became a Cub Scout! What a great program to build strong men with great values!! Men who will be strong, faithful husbands and fathers and take care of their families! I am grateful for such a wonderful program!!

Scout Law
A Scout is
trustworthy,
loyal,
helpful,
friendly,
courteous,
kind,
obedient,
cheerful,
thrifty,
brave,
clean,
and reverent.
